See printed version in PDF format. This contract records the sale of two fields located in two different cities, for a total area of 9 iku (ca. 3.25 hectares or 8 acres). The price that Puzurum pays to their owner Yassi-El is 1/2 mina, 1 1/2 shekels of silver (ca. 262.5 grams or a little over 1/2 pound). The penalty clauses against eventual claims are the same as in the other contracts stipulated by Puzurum. The witness list consists of two parts: one mentions the judge, the five known owners of the neighboring fields and two other individuals, with an expression that describes each of them both as witnesses and recipients of indemnities; the other is a simple list of ten witnesses. The last witness is the scribe himself, who also receives a compensation of 1/3 shekel of silver (less than 3 grams or 1/10 pound). The date of the transaction is indicated by day, month and a year name of the king Yadih-abu (ca. 1725). Non-epigraphic seals are impressed on the left and top side of the tablet. The remaining fragments of the envelope allow the reconstruction of a short text describing the object of the contract in terms of the total area of the fields and the cities where they are located. |
