See printed version in PDF format. This tablet is a contract recording the purchase by Puzurum of an irrigable field belonging to Idin-Kakka. The field is located below the city of Terqa, measures 10 iku (ca. 3.6 hectares or 8.9 acres) and is defined by the bordering fields. Puzurum buys it from its owner Idin-Kakka for 1/2 mina of silver (250 grams or ca. 1/2 pound)as a down payment and 50 ugaru of grain (600 hectoliters or 1700 bushels) to be paid in the future. There follows a series of penalty clauses against any legal claims, the indemnities for the owners of the bordering fields and for another individual, and the list of the fifteen witnesses to this real estate transaction. The closing includes the compensation of 1/2 shekel of silver (ca. 4.2 grams or 1/6 ounce) for the scribe and the date indicated by month, day and a year name during the kingdom of Yadih-abu (ca. 1723). Five inscribed seals, three with scenes, are impressed on the left side of the tablet extending to both faces as well as the top, as shown in the pictures. They belong to the owner of the field, the beneficiary of one of the indemnities, one of the witnesses, and the last two, very damaged, possibly to the scribe. |
